Missional Cells

Missional Cells Vision
Missional Cell.jpg

Our vision is for Bartley Christian Church to be a missional church and not just a missionary-minded or sending church. A Missional Church sees itself as a community sent to represent God’s reign by its being, doing and speaking. To begin with, the small group ministry of the church (the cells of the Body) must be missional in mindset and motivation.

Missional cells are, therefore, small groups of disciples of Christ who gather regularly to spur one another to love God, love others and fulfil His Great Commission in making disciples. They see themselves as more than just ordinary support, fellowship, accountability or Bible Study groups.

They are charged with a sense of mission so that whether gathered as small groups or alone as individuals, they intentionally seek to fulfil the mission of God [missio dei] by participating in His redemption work in whatever location/vocation God calls each to.

Characteristics & Goals

Missional Cells are…

  1. CHARGED (Matt 28:18-20; John 20:21)

  2. EMPOWERED & equipped (Acts 2:42-47; 5:42; 13:1; Eph 4:11-13)

  3. LINKED (1 Cor 12:7-31; (Heb 10:24-25)

  4. LIVING & growing (Eph 4:11-16; 1 Pet 2:2)

  5. SAMPLES of the bigger Body of Christ (Matt 28:18-20, Col 1:9-14, Matt 5:16)

  • Charged (Missional)

    • They are inwardly charged (with direction) and energized by God’s sense of mission and sees the church, the cell and each individual as integral parts of God’s worldwide mission of making disciples (Matt 28:18-20; John 20:21).

  • Empowered & Equipped

    • They are constantly equipped and empowered to be missional (Acts 2:42-47; 5:42; 13:1; Eph 4:11-13).

  • Linked

    • They link and connect individuals together as cells [a team and not alone] with a common missional purpose to the world (1 Cor12:7-31).

    • They link and connect with other cells and with the entire church through aligned worship, service, care and concern, internal unity and synergized outreach (Heb 10:24-25).

  • Living & Growing

    • They are spiritually alive and growing in-depth and in maturity (Eph 4:11-16; 1 Pet 2:2).

    • They are actively assimilating and attracting new people to themselves and growing in numbers and momentum (Acts 2:42-47).

  • Samplings of the (Bigger) Body

    • They naturally replicate more like-minded cells (Matt 28:18-20).

    • They spontaneously bear fruits for God (John 15:8; Gal 5:22-23; Col 1:6,9-14).

    • They proudly represent Bartley Christian Church (BCC) and its unique call to bear witness for God in and from this part of the world (Matt 5:16).

"God does not merely send the church in mission. God already is in mission, and the church must join him. This also means, then, that the church does not simply have a missions department, it should wholly exist to be a mission."

What does it mean to be Missional Disciples?

  • Being Disciple of Christ

    • It is about denying oneself, taking up the cross daily, following Christ (Luke 9:23) and loving God (Matt 22:37-38) and people (Matt 22:39)

    • Thus, it is about obeying the Great Commandment (Matt 22:37-39)

  • Making Disciples

    • It is witnessing and making disciples of Christ.

    • Thus, it is about fulfilling His Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20)

  • Sending Disciples

    • This means living as one sent and sending (other disciple-makers) as one lives.

    • Thus, it is joining the Great Commencement (John 17:18; 20:21) that Christ has started.

What Does It Mean to Be Missional?

To be missional is to acknowledge and live out as one sent out by Christ on His mission of proclaiming God's Kingdom on earth.

"Missional" is derived from the Latin word "missio"
"Missio" is a translation of the Greek word "apostellos

which means

"to send"
